Tukwila To Alki Half Marathon

Saturday, January 27, 2024 • Tukwila, WA • Course Map

Runners looking for a smaller, lower-key, more laid-back alternative to larger races have an ally in the organizers for the Tukwila to Alki Half Marathon, which is set to take runners on a point-to-point course between the small city of Tukwila, which borders Seattle, and nearby Alki along the shoreline of Puget Sound.

This race is completely free to run — as the race organizers describe it, “the aid is free, the run is free, there are no bib numbers, there are no awards, and no one is paid.” That said, a $20 donation is encouraged, which will go to Northwest Harvest or a local food bank. One hundred runners crossed the finish line at the 2014 race, which also saw a new course record set by 18-year-old finisher Alexander Rockhill.

It takes runners along a combination of paved roads and the biking, running and walking trails that run alongside the Green River, starting at the half-way point of the Green River Marathon — which is run each June between nearby Kent and Alki — and then follows the second 13.1 miles of that race all the way to the race finish line at Alki Beach Park, overlooking the waters of Puget Sound.

While there will be volunteers out to provide water and refreshments to runners at the aid station just past the mile 6 point of the race, runners are strongly encouraged to bring along their own water bottles to ensure they stay properly hydrated during the race. The scheduled starting time for the race is 9:00 AM.
