The PNC Milwaukee Half Marathon isn’t just a race — it’s one event in a weekend full of events for runners of every level. Founded in 2015 as the Milwaukee Running Festival, the weekend features a full marathon, half marathon, 5K & 1 mile run, all of which take runners on a scenic tour of Milwaukee.
The half marathon (along with the full marathon) begins at 7:30 AM sharp at 2nd and Freshwater, in the heart of Milwaukee’s Walkers Point neighborhood. From there, runners continue into the Third Ward neighborhood and past the home of the world’s largest music festival and the Milwaukee Art Museum.
The next three miles provide spectacular Lake Michigan views as runners continue through Veterans Park and north along Lincoln Memorial Drive and through Lake Park just before tackling the largest hill on the course. At the turnaround, runners keep going south along the other side of the park, past the North Point Lighthouse and southwest toward Brady Street.
Once reaching Brady Street, runners continue west across the Milwaukee River and southwest down streets that run with the river. A west turn on Wisconsin Avenue leads runners toward Marquette University in the University Hill neighborhood, past historic academic buildings and then parting with the full marathon course with a left turn onto 16th Street.
The two courses are rejoined at Bruce Street, after a stint on 16th Street. The half marathon course continues east, crossing the river again. After passing the Henry W. Maier Festival Park and the Marcus Amphitheatre, runners are treated to lakefront views while heading north along the Hank Aaron State Trail.
Much of the course’s remainder continues along this trail, heading north until reaching the finish line back at Veterans Park. A finish line festival awaits back at the park, where finishers can celebrate with their family and friends for the rest of the morning and continue into the afternoon.
