Event Details

In keeping with the event's title -- and the pride of the local agriculture industry -- every finisher is presented with a real artichoke at Pescadero's Artichoke Half Marathon & 10K, which takes runners on a tour of this town just off the gorgeous windswept Pacific coastline in Northern California, just down the road from Half Moon Bay and a couple hours' drive from the nearby San Francisco Bay Area. Run along a course that's fast and flat, the race usually enjoys mild, sunny weather thanks to its spring slot in the region's road race schedule.

The race begins at 9:00 AM local time at Duarte's Taven, which lies at the intersection of Pescadero Creek Road and Stage Road, just a few minutes' drive from the coastline and the Pescadero State Beach area. Though most of the course takes runners along paved country roads with a number of rolling hills, the scenic race course through the beach and coastl areas also includes three miles of trails, for runners who enjoy more of a challenging, off-road run.

After the race, all finishers are treated to a post-race brunch at Duarte's Tavern before the ride back to the city, and all finishing runners receive finishers' medals -- and real, large artichokes -- whether they've crossed the finish line in the 10K or the 13.1-mile half marathon.

In April, average local temperatures range between 62°F and 43°F, while rainfall amouns average about 2 inches for the month.
