North Dakota > ING Trestle Valley Marathon, Half Marathon
& Relay
Minot, ND
Date
Saturday, April 26, 2008
Event
Details
A challenging marathon and half-marathon course filled with runs across
the North Dakota prairie, through oak tree groves and down into ravines
awaits at the ING Trestle Valley Marathon, Half Marthon &
Relay, which takes runners on a tour each spring of the countryside
surrounding the Minot, N.D., area. Described by organizers as "not flat
and not fast," the race combines a variety of different terrain -- from
paved roads to farm fields to rocky trails -- as well as this rural
part of the country's signature train trestles for a uniquely scenic
event.
The 13.1-mile half-marathon course shares the same starting and finish
line as the full 26.2-mile marathon, near Dakota Square and the YMCA at
16th Street South, just on the southern edge of the town. From there,
the course makes a three-mile loop along 37th Avenue and 31st Avenue
and passes the starting line again, where it begins the portion of the
course that takes participants out into the prairie and the mountain
valley areas.
Runners considering entering the race should be prepared for some
elevation changes, as the course reaches a high of about 1,827 feet and
a low of about 1,598 feet above sea level.
