More than 1,200 runners crossed the finish line in all races combined at the 2014 Fargo Mini Marathon, which unfolds along an out-and-back route through two states (North Dakota and Minnesota) back and forth along the Red River here on the state line for most of the race’s 13.1 miles.

Now set for its 12th annual running this fall, the race follows a similar course to the one used in its previous four years, a race route that starts at the Fargo Scheels Arena near the city’s downtown and takes runners on a north-south route that keeps runners in North Dakota for the first and last section of the race, while crossing the bridge over the river into Minnesota for the middle section.

The course features stretches that run past several of Moorhead, Minnesota’s city parks along the course, including runs past Lindenwood Park, Riverfront Park, and Oak Grove Park, where runners make the turnaround and head back northward along the route they’ve just run.

In addition to the half marathon, 10K and 5K races for adults, the event also hosts a pair of “Mini Milers” races for kids, with a 1K and a 2K race that start following the other races.

Race Weather & Climate

Known for its often harshly cold winters and warm, sometimes hot and humid summers, the city of Fargo in easternmost North Dakota typically experiences mild to cool and occasionally cold weather conditions in the early fall season.

On race day (Oct. 19), the average low is 36ºF and the average high is 58ºF.
