Saturday, September 28, 2019 • Pacifica, CA • Course Map
Organized by the local running and event organization Urban Coyote Racing, this race takes runners through the challenging hills of Pacifica’s San Pedro Valley Park, which lies just a short drive from San Francisco to the north.
Run through this scenic natural area for the first time last year, the Pacifica Summit Run saw just over 100 runners cross the finish line in all four races combined, which include a 10K and 30K race in addition to the half-marathon.
Runners in the 13.1-mile distance race follow the route along the park’s Hazelnut and North Peak trails, which take the field of participants past parts of the park overlooking Weller Ranch, Brooks Creek and Montara Mountain, in addition to the park’s North Peak and Whiting Ridge.
For the half marathon, runners will encounter an overall elevation change of about 2,930 feet, so they’ll need to be prepared for a challenging, up-and-down race through this mostly undisturbed mountainous area.
Though race organizers note that aid stations will be placed at regular intervals along the course (roughly every 9 to 11 kilometers), runners are strongly encouraged to carry a water bottle with them to ensure they stay well hydrated during the race.
