Saturday, January 2, 2016 • Corpus Christi, TX • Course Map

Corpus Christi, the 8th largest city in Texas, is home to over 113 miles of Gulf Coast beaches, and nearly 70 miles of beachfront on Padre and Mustang Islands. Visitors flock to Corpus Christi year round, with temperatures as high as 65 in January. Over 8 million people travel there each year, visiting the state’s largest aquarium, the Texas State Aquarium. Other attractions nearby include the USS Lexington, the world’s oldest aircraft carrier which first came to Corpus Christi in 1992.

Hosted by the locally-based Corpus Christi Roadrunners running club, the American Bank Half Marathon takes runners on an out and back course along 13.1 miles of beautiful, sunny coastline. January 2nd, 2016 marks the 27th running of this race, which also features a half-marathon 2-person relay. Also new in 2016 is the creation of a Clydesdale/Athena division. Men over 200 lbs and women over 175 lbs are also welcome to register for this new category.

Runners start and finish on Bayfront (across from One Shoreline Plaza) at 7:30am. Runners will head southeast towards Ward Island and spend the entirety of the race on Ocean Drive.  Runners will hug the coast and pass through various parks including McCaughan Park, Ropes Park and Doddridge Park. When runners reach Poenisch Park, they will turn around and head back along the same Ocean Drive route, with the only difference being a quick run through Cole Park before heading back to the finish. This makes the 13.1 mile course one of the flattest and fastest half marathons in Texas, perfect for setting a new personal record as you ring in the new year! Along the course runners will hear four different DJ’s as well as Corpus Christi’s own Flat Broke Sonny & Band at the finish.

Unique awards will be given to all runners and teams who place. Half Marathon awards will be given to the overall winner for male and female as well as the top three male and female finishers for the ten-year age groups. All runners will also receive a long sleeve t-shirt. Packet pickup will take place Friday, January 1st from 12:00pm – 6pm at Fleet Feet Sports on 514 Everhart Road, Corpus Christi. Packets can also be picked up on race day from 6:00am to 6:45am at the race site. If you’re looking for a flat and fast race with great atmosphere, free beer and delicious barbecue come down to Corpus Christi for the American Bank Half Marathon.
