Overlooking the waters of Chesapeake Bay at its southern end, Annapolis’s Quiet Waters Park and the Hillsmere Shores residential neighborhood that lies next door serve as the setting for the Annapolis Run for the Lighthouse Half Marathon & 5K, which makes its 15th annual running this year.
The race is designed as a fundraiser for the Friends of the Light House Shelter, a local community group that helps support the mission of the Annapolis Light House Shelter, which is dedicated to preventing homelessness by providing emergency shelter and transitional housing to those in need, as well as range of other programs and services to people facing homelessness.
Runners will start the half marathon at the Blue Heron Pavilion at Quiet Waters Park, whose 340 acres play host to frequent concerts, weddings and events, and where runners, walkers and joggers often congregate along its six miles of park trails.
From there, runners in the half marathon start with a loop through the nearby Hillsmere Shores neighborhood, making a clockwise loop along its roads before returning back up to the north end of the park.
Over the next stretch, the loop along the park roads and trails, runners will then make two clockwise loops before making their way back to the Blue Heron Pavilion for the race finish line.
