Saturday, July 8, 2017 • Allenstown, NH • Course Map

Making its annual running around Bear Brook State Park in Allenstown, NH, the Bear Brook Trail race features a marathon, half marathon and new for 2017, a 10K race. For the marathon, runners never quite know how far they will run as the exact mileage is never shared by race directors. It can be anywhere between 27 and 30 miles. For half marathons, the course is 13 miles and will remain that way for this year’s annual running in early July. Last year’s race in 2016 saw 160 runners cross the finish line, with 87 in the half marathon alone.

The course for the Bear Brook Trail half marathon will take runners on the best trails that the state park has to offer, with rolling terrain and beautiful paths through the woods. Runners should note that this race is not for your casual road runner, and features a variety of rocks, roots, sticks, mud and dirt roads. While runners in the half marathon will enjoy some rolling terrain, the full marathon course includes a few hills along the way.

There is no cutoff time for the half marathon, and full marathon runners are asked to complete the race by the 9 hour time. One unmanned aid station and two fully stocked and staffed aid stations will be located along the half marathon course. Upon completion of the race, runners can enjoy a post-race barbecue and watch the awards ceremony for the top three guys and girls in each race. Runners are encouraged to camp in the park or stay in the nearby cities of Concord and Manchester, which are 20-30 minutes from the state park.
