Best Damn Race Cape Coral Half Marathon, 10K & 5K

Sunday, December 11, 2016 • Cape Coral, FL • Course Map While Cape Coral, Florida has 400 miles of canals — more than any other city in the world — runners won’t be navigating canals in this planned community’s Best Damn Race Half Marathon, 10K & 5K. Instead they’ll be pounding the pavement on a virtually flat course with beautiful views. Even though most of the running is through neighborhoods, it’s the architecture that makes the area special and makes the course such a gorgeous one. Beginning at the Cape Harbor Marina in Cape Coral, the out-and-back course leads runners through Cape Coral, starting by heading north on Chiquita Boulevard. After just over a mile, runners turn right onto Southwest 48th Terrace for another mile before turning right onto Skyline Boulevard. Runners will get plenty of chances for waterfront views as they continue weaving through different residential streets, such as while crossing the bridge on Southwest 12th Avenue toward Rose Garden Road. The halfway point of the course arrives upon reaching Rotary Park, and after a brief run down El Dorado Parkway, runnes turn around and retrace most of their steps toward the finish line near the start. Race organizers note the time limit for the course is 3 hours, 30 minutes, or 16 minutes per mile. Strollers and baby joggers are welcome but are urged to start at the back of the pack for everyone’s safety. Race Weather & Climate Located in southwestern Florida, Cape Coral experiences the year-round warm weather that is characteristic of the area. With 1.58 inches of rain on average, December is also the driest month for Cape Coral. On race day (Dec. 11), the average low is 57ºF and the average high is 77ºF.
