As the entire half marathon course resides within the Birmingham Metro area, runners can expect to see all that there is to see of the Magic City, inclusive of museums, historical monuments, bustling restaurants, and park greenery.
Sharing the same starting line as the full marathon, the BHM13.1 half marathon course begins on Valleydale Road in Veterans Park, first journeying runners through the Magic City of downtown Birmingham – a city known for its steep history and growing entertainment culture. From there, runners jump on Inverness Parkway as they journey through Homewood and Mountain Brooke, capturing picturesque scenery of landmarks like the Hoover Inverness Nature Park located just after the 5k mark.
The race then leads runners back toward the finish line as they re-enter Valleydale Road at the halfway mark. Finally, runners turn onto Jaguar Drive; their final stop before finding themselves back in Veterans Park.
One of the most highly-attended races in Birmingham and all of Alabama for that matter, the half marathon alone has over 2,000 annual participants, nearly selling out its 2,500 participant cap. With water and Powerade stations every two (2) miles and medical stations both at the start line and midway point, runners are welcome to carry with them what they think they’ll need during the race. Both the marathon and the half marathon share a cut-off time of six (6) hours. Finally, while there are no cash incentives for top finishers as this is a charity event, runners can expect to celebrate with a finisher’s medal, an inclusive post-race meal and beverage, and entertainment at the official BHM26.2 after-party!
