Back for its sixth year, the Black Bear Half Marathon & 8K by iDaph Events offers an autumn-footfall escape through Hendersonville’s charming downtown and scenic greenways. Held during peak foliage season, the race begins and ends in Jackson Park before stretching out along Bartlett Street and onto the paved Oklawaha Greenway, looping through wooded sections, historic streetscapes, and riverine corridors. The half is a double-loop course—creating communal energy and spectator access while easing pacing strategy.
With under 400 ft of elevation gain, participants enjoy a fast, USATF-certified course (NC22016DF) ideal for PRs, aided by two aid stations offering water, Gatorade, energy gels, and Jambars. Each loop features consistent support, with up to four hydration opportunities.
What separates Black Bear is its race-meets-festival charm: packet pickup is hosted the day before at Oklawaha Brewing during an Oktoberfest-style market, and race day itself includes the Black Bear Fall Market—vendors, apple cider donuts, live music, and race bib beer redemption at local breweries.
Swag is top-tier: half entrants receive a long-sleeve Recover-brand shirt (if registered early), metal finisher medal, goody bag, and Oktoberfest perks; 8K runners enjoy a short-sleeve shirt. Prizes are offered for overall and age-group finishers.
This event blends fall color, local festivity, and a speedy half marathon experience, all within a supportive and well-organized community-driven format.
