With a half marathon, 5K, and relay options, the Boom Shakalaka Party is not to miss in Indianapolis. This nighttime event promises to make your Labor Day weekend the best one ever. Runners have the option of completing the 13.1 mile distance by themselves or recruiting a team of 2 or 4 racers for the relay option. Awards will be handed out to the fastest relay teams as well so recruit your fastest friends to join the party.
Runners will complete 4 laps if completing the Boom Shakalaka Half Marathon on their own. The party begins at the Major Taylor Velodrome, an open-air cycling track. The course takes runners along Cold Spring Road as they head north towards I-65. They make a sharp right to head east and encounter their first hydration stop just before the White River.
Racers will continue the course along White River Parkway with views of the White River over their left shoulders. At the intersection with W 30th Street, runners make a right and begin to make their way west. The Riverside Golf Course hugs both sides of the street until the intersection of Cold Spring Road. The course then heads towards the Velodrome where runners will continue this pattern for 3 more laps.
Runners have 4 hours to complete the course and are asked to bring a flashlight or headlamp if they expect to be on the course beyond 9:00 p.m. The half marathon distance begins at 7:00 p.m., but the festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m. Each finisher will receive a medal and a drawstring backpack. Awards are given out to the top 3 overall finishers and the top 3 in each age group.
