Though its name suggests a much more famous counterpart in Massachusetts, the Boston Trail Half-Marathon and 5K actually takes place in Pennsylvania. The out-and-back race gets its name from the start/finish line in Boston Ballfield Park nestled in the Elizabeth borough.

With just over 1,500 residents in Elizabeth, this small town race is sure to be a relaxed and casual event even for serious runners. It will provide runners an opportunity to test out their legs for the upcoming Pittsburgh Marathon or enjoy a fast and fun 5K.

The town was founded in 1787 and a number of buildings from the 18th century still stand today. Runners are treated to great views of a wonderful small town as they wind their way to the Yough River Trail.

The race is held on a portion of this 71-mile-long multi-use trail that was once a railway line. Composed of crushed limestone, runners will cruise easily through the miles. The trail is located next to the Youghiogheny River, a tributary to the Monongahela River. Elevation changes are minimal, so runners can expect a fast race. The race will be open to a total of 900 entrants, and all proceeds will benefit the Yough River Trail and runners will be eligible to win age group awards.
