Saturday, September 26, 2020 • Torrey, UT • Course Map

Note: The 2020 race has been cancelled.

Take a downhill run through the mountains of southern Utah just outside Capitol Reef National Park and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument at this race, which starts near the top of Boulder Mountain and finishes in nearby Torrey, dropping more than 1,500 feet of elevation by the time you reach the finish line.

Organized by the locally-based Wayne County Business Association, the race’s starting line lies near the Single Tree Campground on Boulder Mountain, which lies south of Torrey along Highway 12.

From there — the elevation at the starting line is just over 8,200 feet above sea level — runners will make their way onto Highway 12, and then head north towards Torrey, with stunning views all around of the mesas and red rock formations this part of Utah is known for.

You’ll follow portions of Highway 12, River View Road and Old Dump Road all the way into Torrey, where you’ll cross the finish line at the park in the center of this town whose history dates back to the 1880s, when it was first settled by Mormon pioneers.

By the time you reach the finish line, you’ll have descended from about 8,260 feet to about 6,830 feet. Organizers say there will be aid stations located every 3 miles along the route, stocked with Gatorade, water and porta-potties.

The course will be re-opened after 12:30 PM, they add, which means runners will need to be finished by 12:00 noon — a pace of 14 minutes, 50 seconds per mile or faster.
