Want to overachieve and run in two states during your next half marathon? The Bristol Half and Half lets you do just that, leading runners through the twin cities of Bristol, Virginia and Bristol, Tennessee.

The race begins at Virginia High School on the Virginia side of Bristol, where half marathoners will start by making a lap around the high school track before heading out toward downtown Bristol, which both the Tennessee and Virginia cities share.

After two miles of running through residential neighborhoods and taking in the early April sights, the course enters downtown Bristol. A brief run on State Street — which forms the border between Tennessee and Virginia — is followed by a left turn onto 10th Street and into Bristol, Tennessee, the birthplace of country music.

Half marathoners continue south through Bristol neighborhoods for nearly two miles before making a turnaround back to downtown Bristol, this time crossing State Street and returning to Bristol, Virginia.

The next two miles feature residential neighborhoods and another trip back to downtown Bristol, this time passing the well-known Good Place to Live sign on State Street that approximates the halfway point of the half marathon and the exchange point for relay participants.

The second half of the course takes place entirely in Tennessee, with the exception of one more run down State Street at mile 10, before crossing the finish line at Tennessee High School.

The half marathon benefits the American Cancer Society, and the pre-race ceremonies feature a cancer survivor recognition.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in the Tri-Cities region of Tennessee and Virginia that also includes Johnson City and Kingsport (both in Tennessee), Bristol experiences cool to mild weather in April, although mornings can still be chilly.
