runsignup-blueNote: The 2020 race has been cancelled.

Set for its 10th annual running this fall — a time of year when the weather can be bright and sunny, or when there might be snow on the ground — the Crossroads of Northwest Indiana Marathon & Half Marathon takes runners on an out-and-back course that starts near downtown Lowell.

Designed to be fast and flat, to attract both beginning runners as well as those trying to record personal record times — and for those trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon, as the race is certified by USA Track & Field as a Boston qualifying race — the course starts and finishes at Rohrman Park northwest of Crown Point.

(The course has been completely redesigned for this year’s race — past years saw the course take runners up and around Cedar Lake; this year will feature a flat and fast out-and-back run.)

From the starting line at Rohrman Park, runners in the half marathon begin by following the same route as the full marathon, heading northwest on Rohrman Road before continuing on the Pennsy Greenway bike path. Around the mile 2 marker, runners continue east through residential areas and a couple of miles along 75th Avenue in New Elliott.

The middle portion of the course takes runners north along the Erie Lackawanna Trail until reaching the midpoint of the race. Here the half marathoners turn around and head back along the bike trail, while full marathoners turn right and run along Turkey Creek briefly before continuing northward.

But it’s southward bound (and oh-so-slightly uphill) for half marathoners as they head south and then west back to Rohrman Park for the finish.

Runners will have a 6-hour course time limit to finish the full marathon and the half marathon — the course will close at 1:30 PM.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in Indiana’s northwest corner, roughly 134 miles northwest of Indianapolis and just over 50 miles southeast of Chicago, Crown Point typically sees cool to mild weather in late October, and an early snow flurry is possible if temperatures are abnormally cool in the morning.

On race day (Oct. 25), the average low is 59ºF and the average high is 39ºF.
