Immerse yourself in the natural beauty and historical charm of the Crowell Hilaka Trail Run, a woodland adventure designed for nature enthusiasts and trail runners alike. Navigate a diverse course that winds through primitive single tracks, Ohio’s Buckeye Trail, bridle trails, open fields, and camp roads. Expect the delightful challenges that trails offer, including mud, slippery rocks, foot-grabbing roots, and minor water crossings – all complemented by the emerging autumn colors in mid-September.
Taking place at the Richfield Heritage Preserve, formerly Crowell Hilaka, the park boasts not only scenic landscapes but also a rich history. Once home to the pioneer Oviatt family and later to the inventive Jim Kirby, it served as a Girl Scout camp for 75 years starting in 1937. For the 2024 edition, runners will conquer the 6-mile loop multiple times – five for the 50k, two for the Half Marathon, and once for the 10k. Starting and finishing at the summer barn, participants can sprint for candy and return for a well-deserved finisher medal, making this trail run a blend of natural wonders and historical echoes.
