One of Florida’s smaller road race events that takes runners across what past participants describe as a “pancake flat” course through the state’s rural Ocala National Forest countryside, the DeLeon Springs Half Marathon & 5K marks its 33rd annual running this winter, and usually sees more than 200 runners cross the finish line in the 13.1-mile event each year.
This out-and-back race starts and finishes at Chuck Lennon Park and is considered an excellent choice for runners looking to set personal record times, thanks to its flat course and usually perfect running weather conditions, as it typically enjoys temperatures in the low 70s on the day of the race.
The race’s organizers add that finisher’s medals will be presented to every runner who crosses the finish line, as well as long-sleeve race shirts for all entrants who sign up to receive them (see the race fee information below).
Organizers also add that after the race, many participants take in the local fare like that at the Olde Spanish Sugar Mill at the nearby DeLeon Springs State Park, just north of Spring Garden Lake.
Race Weather & Climate
Located in northern central Florida, about 45 miles north of Orlando and roughly 20 miles west of Daytona Beach, DeLeon Springs typically sees weather conditions much like those of nearby DeLand, which sees average monthly temperatures in January that range between 44°F and 70°F, while precipitation amounts average just over 3.3 inches for the month.
On the day of the race (Jan. 1), the average low is 45°F and the average high is 70°F.
