runsignup-blueOne of upstate New York’s smaller road races with a field of around 150 finishers each year, the Delta Lake Half Marathon is set for its 10th annual running as summer is giving way to fall, on a course that takes runners on a counter-clockwise loop around the Delta Lake reservoir, from the starting and finish line area at Delta Lake State Park.

Most of the race route is run on paved surfaces around the lake, running through the small communities of Westerville and Lee Center around the lake, along stretches of Townline Road, County Road 53, Turin Road and County Road 60 before bringing runners back around to the state park for the race finish.

Several stretches unfold through the residential neighborhoods along the lakeshore, giving runners plenty of views of many of the gorgeous homes along Delta Lake.

Organized by the locally based Roman Runners’ Club, the race features rolling hills with some challenging stretches, especially near the end of the route that brings runners up a hill near the lake’s Delta Dam, between Golf Course Road and Westerville Road. Once runners make it past this hill, there’s just over a mile left before runners head back into the state park to cross the finish line.

The race starting time is scheduled for 9:00 AM, and runners can pick up their race packets (and even register) on the morning of the race.

Runners also should note that while sections of the course will remain open to traffic during the race — and there are stretches where runners will need to move toward the side of the road — traffic typically is very light around the lake.

Participants can know that their race entry fees will go toward a great cause, as a portion of the proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Believe 271 Foundation.
