Billing itself as the race that runners built, the Destin Marathon and Half Marathon marks its inaugural event in mid-April 2016 in sunny northwest Florida.
The Destin Half Marathon was crowdfunded by over 600 runners in what race organizers describe as the first successful marathon crowdfunding campaign, and was created by runners, for runners, as an excellent value for participants’ money.
The half marathon course begins in Harborwalk Village in downtown Destin and leads runners east through downtown Destin before heading west toward Highway 98.
While the bulk of the course is run along Highway 98, the half marathon takes a detour along Santa Rosa Boulevard near mile 6 on Okaloosa Island. After running along the beachfront, the course turns around and retraces the path of the half marathon’s first half before returning to the finish line, right near the start line.
Full marathoners run the course twice, while half marathoners run the course once.
