Overview

Sunday, April 23, 2017 • Lewis Center, OH • Course Map

Don’t want to travel too far to run a trail race? Meet the Dirt of the Earth Half Marathon & 10K, a trail race designed by central Ohio trail runners, for trail runners. This event, which replaced the Ohio Earth Day Challenge Half Marathon in 2016, begins just off Hollenback Road in Lewis Center, just south of the dog part. From there, runners explore the Rocks and Roots Trail at Alum Creek, running two loops of roughly 10K each — one 10K to the north of the start line, and one 10K route to the south. Race organizers note that in honor of Earth Day, the race’s proceeds will be donated to further reforestation of Alum Creek State Park, and that “a portion of your proceeds will go toward planting indigenous trees through areas that were once cleared decades ago for farming”.

Race Weather & Climate

Located just north of state capital Columbus, Lewis Center experiences cool (and sometimes cold) weather in mid-April. With temperatures ranging as low as 13° (1964) and as high as 88° (1990), all types of temperature changes are possible in April, so dress for any weather. On race day (Apr. 23), the average low is 41ºF and the average high is 65ºF.
