The Doc Rock and Run features a half marathon and 5K that start on the campus of Arkansas State University and take runners through the city of Jonesboro, which lies just over an hour’s drive north from Memphis, Tennessee.
The race is a joint venture between the Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and is run as a benefit for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Bernards Medical Center.
Not only will members from the medical community be racing along with the runners, but a special performance by a band comprised of HMG doctors will be performing as well. Additionally, local bands will be performing throughout points during the race and providing great entertainment.
Runners will enjoy this out-and-back course that makes a large loop through the city of Jonesboro. To start, racers line up at the Convocation Center on the Arkansas State University campus.
The first few miles make a small loop through the ASU campus. Home to over 13,000 and over 100 years of history, this public university is the second largest in the state of Arkansas. As runners travel down University Loop road, they will be able to see the all aspects of college life including classroom buildings and dorm halls.
At mile marker 2, racers curve back around and head north on Stadium Boulevard. It’s a straight shot until just past mile 3, when the ASU stadium comes into view. By the time runners reach mile 4, they will begin to reach the outskirts of the campus and head west towards the city center along East Johnson Avenue.
After the race is more than halfway completed at just past mile marker 7, racers will begin to head east along West Matthews Avenue.
For the next couple of miles, runners will cruise along Matthews until seeing the Arkansas State University Campus once again. They head back along Stadium Boulevard for the final miles and turn off on Alumni Boulevard to cross the finish line.
