With two different times and three different race distances, the Double Half Marathon, 10K, & 5K has plenty of options for runners on September 5th. Runners can choose to do just 1 race in the morning or evening or double up on distances in any combination they choose. The first races begin at 7:30 a.m. and runners can rest up before toeing the line again at 4:30 p.m.

The half marathon courses are both out-and-back held along the Leon Creek Greenway in San Antonio, a public trail that will be open on race day. Runners will begin with a staggered start to allow for plenty of space along the trail.

The morning course begins at the Valero trailhead and will feature a total of 6 hydration stops along the way. Water, Gatorade, and ice will be available to runners to stave off the Texas heat. The paved Greenway path does offer plenty of shade covered sections and runners will enjoy getting away from the nearby asphalt jungle.

The evening course begins at the Ingram Road trailhead and has the same features as the morning course. With at 4:30 p.m. start, runners are more likely to encounter warmer weather and race directors encourage runners to take full advantage of their 6 hydration stations as well as bring their own hydration to carry.
Runners are allowed to bring both strollers and dogs as long as they are mindful of the other runners out on the course. All finishers will receive a medal for their efforts and those participating in 2 events will receive 2 finishers’ medals.

Race Weather & Climate

With average highs in the 90’s and lows in the 70’s the Double Half Marathon will give runners a taste of the Texas heat no matter which race they choose. The record high in September in 2000 was a blistering 111°F and the record low was 41°F in 1942. Pop-up thunderstorms are always a likely possibility and the race will be held unless lightening is present.

On race day (Sep. 5), the average low is 71ºF and the average high is 92ºF.
