Billed as the “hardest half in San Antonio,” the Dragon’s Den Half Marathon, 10K & 5K is guaranteed to challenge runners on a number of fronts, not the least of which is the weather. August in San Antonio challenges runners with its heat and humidity, which will be on full display even in this early morning race.
The Dragon’s Den Half Marathon course is comprised of two loops on a mixed-surface trail that winds through San Antonio’s Pearsall Park. Hills abound throughout the course, offering both awesome views and killer climbs.
Organizers do their best to keep runners cool and comfortable throughout the race. Runners will pass 14 total water stops on the route featuring ice cold water, electrolytes, and towels. However, this half marathon is not for the faint of heart. The half marathon has a 4-hour total time limit, so be prepared: runners who can’t complete the first loop in 2 hours will be pulled from the course.
During the event, families are invited to join in the fun. A kids’ dash for those 12 and under is held after most runners have finished, between 9:00 am and 9:30 am. Children will enjoy climbing the park’s 3-story play structure as they wait to cheer on their runner at the finish line.
Maybe you’ll outrun the dragon, or maybe you’ll find yourself trapped its lair, but either way, turkey legs, beer, and other refreshments await you as you celebrate post-race.
For runners who can’t make it in person on race day but want to join in the fun, virtual options for all distances are available.
