Runners will start the out-and-back course for the half marathon at Stone’s Marina just off North Road, near Bridgeport. From there, the course heads on a somewhat zig-zag route along the roads that line the southern shore of the lake, which also happens to be the largest inland lake in New York state.
The course is “extremely flat,” organizers say, as it starts at an elevation of just over 370 feet above sea level and never rises higher than 406 feet. The timing of the race also ensures that you’re likely to see some impressive fall foliage in and around the lake, as much of the race follows tree-shaded roads.
Organizers note that the course is USATF-certified, and proceeds from the race will go to benefit efforts to provide Integrative Medicine at the Upstate Cancer Center of the State University of New York.
