Note: The 2022 race has been canceled.

The home of professional golf’s annual Memorial Tournament plays host to the 7th annual running of Dublin’s Emerald City Half & Quarter Marathon, with an out-and-back route that takes runners on a tour of the rolling countryside to the northwest of the city, and through the park roads of Glacier Ridge Metro Park, a 250-acre restored wetland area just outside downtown Dublin.

Both the event’s half and quarter marathon races follow out-and-back courses that start and finish at Dublin Methodist Hospital, which lies just off Dublin’s Perimeter Drive near the Avery Square shopping center.

From there, runners in the half marathon follow the route first northward along Perimeter Drive and Post Road until they meet up with Hyland-Croy Road, which starts a nearly three-mile straightaway stretch that takes runners all the way up into the more rural areas just north and west of the city.

The middle sections of the race wind around the country roads that lie just a short distance as the crow flies from several area golf courses like Riviera Country Club and the famed Muirfield Village Golf Course, where the PGA Tour makes its annual stop at host Jack Nicklaus’s Memorial Tournament in early June each year.

After turns on Corazon Road, Jerome Road and McKitrick Road, the second half of the race then brings runners into the grounds of the Glacier Ridge Metro Park.

So named for the landscape that was left behind when the Wisconsin Glacier retreated northward an estimated 12,000 to 17,000 years ago, the Glacier Ridge park today is home to a boardwalk on which visitors can tour the park’s now-restored wetlands areas.

There’s also an observation tower there from which they can look out onto the vast meadows and wetlands to see the bird life in the sanctuary, a five-mile horseback riding trail and even an 18-hole disc golf course.

Runners continue making their way in a clockwise loop around the park roads through the northern end of the park, and then head southward through the park, crossing County Highway 9 (Mitchell-Dewitt Road) over the last few miles before turning back onto Hyland-Croy Road for the final couple of miles, which bring runners back over the roads they ran in the beginning of the race, back to the finish line at the hospital.
