Set for its 3rd annual running here in this suburb of St. Louis, the Equinox Half Marathon is set to run on the fall equinox, one of two days in the year when the length of daytime and nighttime is equal everywhere on Earth, and which marks the beginning of fall when the days begin getting shorter and the nights begin getting longer.
The race unfolds along a double-loop, out-and-back course that starts and finishes in front of Westport Plaza shopping center, just off the intersection of Fee Fee Road and Westline Industrial Drive.
From there, the half marathon follows a clockwise route around the roads that span out from the shopping center. Runners will make their way north along Progress Parkway, Weldon Parkway, Fee Fee Road, Dorsett Road, Adle Road and Westline Industrial Drive before turning into Westport Plaza, where they started the race.
After they make the turn back into Westport and cross the starting line where they began the race, they’ll run a second loop around the same roads they’ve just run, before heading back into the shopping center again for the race finish.
The course time limit for the half marathon is 3 hours, which means you’ll need to keep a pace of 18 minutes per mile or faster.
Race Weather & Climate
Nestled along a bend in the winding Missouri River, roughly a 25-minute drive from downtown St. Louis, Maryland Heights typically sees mild to moderately warm weather in September, but race day should bring cooler temperatures than the day’s average high by race time, as this is a nighttime event.
On race day (Sept. 21), the average low is 60ºF and the average high is 80ºF.
