Runners get the chance to run the mostly flat, fast terrain of Eugene’s biking, walking and running trails at the Eugene Holiday Half Marathon & Hustle 10K and 5K, which marks its 8th annual running in 2019 after last year’s race saw nearly 400 runners cross the finish line in all three races combined, including 169 finishers in the half marathon alone.

The race unfolds along the Ruth Bascom Riverbank Path, named after Ruth Bascom, Eugene’s first female mayor and a lifelong advocate of biking and walking. The 19.5 miles of the full trail run along both sides of the Willamette River, going through parks industrial areas alike.

All three races — half marathon, 10K and 5K — share the same starting and finish line at ColdFire Brewing Company on Mill Street. From there, the half marathon course heads west along the riverbank trail, crossing over the Owosso Foot Bridge between miles 3 and 4. After crossing the river, there’s a brief out-and-back section before heading south along the other side of the riverbank trail.

The race continues into Alton Baker Park, where runners can use the flush toilets along the half marathon around mile 8. The remainder of the course takes place along Day Island Road and along the path, featuring another river crossing just before mile 12. From there runners continue along the river and back toward the finish line.

There really aren’t any major hills along the course; it’s more of a gradual downhill descent between the starting line and the turnaround; after that, the course follows a very gradual uphill back in to the finish line at the Campbell Community Center.
