In conjunction with a 5K and 10K, the Girls on the Go Half Marathon in Richmond, California is made for women, but welcomes men to join the fun. Runners are encouraged to bring canned goods and gently used clothing to support the Bay Area Rescue Mission. This event is not only great for women and fitness, but helps to support the Bay Area community as well.
The half marathon course is an out-and-back that travels through Point Pinole Park, a beautiful region that abuts the San Pablo Bay. There are scenic views in all directions with San Francisco to the southwest, Mount Tamalpais and the Marin Headlands to the northwest, and the San Pablo Bay to the north and east. Runners will encounter gently rolling hills and a variety of terrain including paved paths and packed dirt trails.
Runners will start in the southernmost section of Point Pinole Park where they will take the westernmost trail and head north. The first 2 miles of the race run parallel to the water and runners can take in the scenery of the San Pablo Bay. Beyond the 2nd mile marker, the course loops and runners will head south. Once they near the 4th mile marker, the trail will loop again and the course will go north.
The course continues north for less than a mile before runners make 2 quick rights and approach the 5th mile marker. Racers will begin to travel to the easternmost section of the course and then make their way back west towards the start/finish area. Once runners reach the halfway mark, the course makes a u-turn.
Runners will continue the second half of the race covering the same path in reverse. The course will resume the same loops through Point Pinole Park in reverse. Though they will be travelling the same sections, the course in reverse offers different views of the Bay, nearby San Francisco, and the park itself.
Upon finishing, all runners will receive a medal. The top 3 overall women will receive an award as well as the top 3 women in each age group. Aid stations will be located a mile markers 2.5, 4, and 6 with the out-and-back course allowing runners to utilize them twice.
