In conjunction with a 5K and 10K, the Girls on the Go Half Marathon in Los Angeles is made for women, but welcomes men to join the fun. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the San Gabriel Valley Coalition for the Homeless and race participants are encouraged to bring new or gently used clothing, toiletry items, and non-perishable food. Additionally, in the spirit of women helping women, the Princess Project will be collecting prom dresses and accessories to donate to girls who cannot afford them.
The half marathon course features paved roads, dirt paths, and a low stream stream bed. Runners will start and finish the out-and-back course on the south side of Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park which is located in San Dimas, an eastern neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The course starts on Via Verde and runners will head west until reaching Lakeside Road. As they head north on Lakeside Road, they will begin to see Puddingstone Reservoir come into view on their right side. Runners will continue through the first mile marker and keep heading north on Lakeside Road until it intersects with Bonelli Park Trail. The trail will take runners across the northern span of the Reservoir and out east.
There is a short out-and-back section at mile 3 and then runners will take the course south along Via Verde. This part of the course takes runners close to the start/finish line where they will make the turnaround to retrace their steps. At the halfway point, they will make a u-turn on Via Verde and make their way back along the same course.
The finish line will be awaiting runners right where they started the race prior to traveling 13.1 miles on foot.
Water stations are located at the 1, 2, 3.5, 5, and 7 mile markers. Nuun and Honey Stinger En-R-G will be at mile 7.
The half marathon will feature awards for women only and the top 3 overall and in each age group will be eligible. All finishers will receive a medal.
