Mount Pleasant’s H4H Trail Run is one of a series of half marathon races that take place here in this central Michigan city throughout the year from April through November, near the middle of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula.
Begun by Ryan Hackett, an avid runner and manager of a specialty running store in Mount Pleasant, the Michigan Half Series features a slate of races for every season, from the series’ winter events (like its Ice Cube Half Marathon, Snowmans Half Marathon and Mud Dogs Half Marathon races) to this series, which covers the spring, summer and fall seasons.
Runners taking part in September’s H4H Half will follow an out-and-back course that starts and finishes at Deerfield Nature Park, a 591-acre park that’s located just over six miles west of downtown Mount Pleasant, along West Remus Road. Runners will make their way along several of the park’s eight miles of wooded trails, which follow alongside the winding Chippewa River that flows through the park.
The course for the H4H Half, in fact, follows the same course as the one used in another Michigan Half Series event, the Girls on the Run Trail Half Marathon, which takes place in May.
One of the nice features of this series is that if you win your age group division — for the overall series, that is all 6 events — you’ll receive free lifetime race entry in the series in subsequent years, as often as you wish to come back.
Race Weather & Climate
Located in central Michigan, near the geographic center of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula and about 155 miles northwest of Detroit, Mount Pleasant typically sees mild to moderately warm weather in September, when the city’s average monthly temperatures range between 49°F and 71°F.
On race day (Sept. 10), the average low is 51ºF and the average high is 74ºF.
