Runners will follow an out-and-back course that starts and finishes near Bountiful’s South Davis Recreation Center on North 200 West. From there, runners head north and then west through the city along West Pages Lane, followed by a few turns that take runners into nearby West Bountiful and out to the trail that runs alongside the Legacy Parkway.
Though there are few hills in the first couple of miles of the race, once runners pass the mile 3 marker along the Denver and Rio Grande Western Rail Trail, the next several miles feature nearly all-flat terrain.
Just before hitting the mile 3 marker, runners turn right and head onto the Legacy Parkway Trail, which stretches nearly a dozen miles between North Salt Lake at its southernmost point, all the way north to Farmington.
The half marathon route will keep runners on the trail for nearly three miles, bringing them back under the Legacy Parkway highway before hitting the mile 8 marker.
Once runners make their way back onto the roadways at North 1250 West, they’ll then continue south for about a mile and a half until they hit Porters Lane, where they turn right and head west again toward the Legacy Parkway.
At the parkway, they’ll turn left on North 1100 West and then left again on West Pages Lane, for a long straightaway that brings them back to North Main Street, and the home stretch in toward the finish line back at the recreation center.
In addition to the half marathon, there’s also a 5K and a Pioneer Petes’ 1K race — just over 630 runners crossed the finish line in all three races combined in 2016, including 220 finishers in the half marathon.
