The Haunted Halloween Half Marathon & 5km will take place on Sunday, October 22nd in the heart of Chicago’s Lincoln Park. Participants can choose the 5k or half marathon, and both races are along Chicago’s Lakefront Trail. The event is open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, with awards for people in each age category. The Haunted Halloween Half Marathon & 5km has a maximum of 500 participants. Costumes are encouraged as there is a pre-race costume contest at 7:15 am–first, second, and third place costumes win $100 each! The races start at 8 am. Everyone who finishes a race gets a H^3 skull medal to take home. All participants of the Haunted Halloween Half Marathon & 5km get autumn treats, including candy.

The excitement doesn’t end with the race; it’s just the beginning. Hundreds of participants will compete for fun and prizes, with age group awards up for grabs in ten-year ranges. If your costume steals the spotlight, you might just snag some extra treat money, as the pre-race Costume Contest offers cash prizes for the top three winners. The course is a thrilling journey through Lincoln Park’s scenic trails and continues south along Chicago’s Lakefront Trail, offering a perfect blend of nature and urban landscapes. Every mile is marked, and the half marathon features timing splits at strategic points, ensuring you’re on track for a thrilling finish.
Post-race, replenish your energy with autumn refreshments and, of course, Halloween candy. As you cross the finish line, you’ll receive the coveted H^3 skull medal – a perfect addition to your bib and shirt.
With limited spots available, act fast to secure your place among the 500 total finishers. Whether you choose to use public transportation or brave the roads, parking is available at the Chicago History Museum lot or along Cannon Drive.
Packet Pickup on raceday starts at 6:45 am, so don’t be late. The schedule is packed with excitement, including the Costume Contest Judging at 7:15 am and the race kick-off at 8:00 am. Gear Check is open until NOON, ensuring a smooth and convenient experience for all participants.
