Note: This race appears to have been cancelled for 2018.

Stunning views of the front range of the Colorado Rockies along a gradual downhill descent await runners at the Sports Authority Highlands Ranch Half Marathon, which unfolds along a point-to-point course that starts in Daniels Park and finishes in Highlands Ranch, a suburban community of Denver.

Runners start the half marathon at Daniels Park, a 1,000-acre park about 21 miles south of Denver that’s home to historic ranch buildings, a herd of bison and the Tall Bull Memorial Grounds, an ancient Native American historic site.

It’s also considered one of the best places around to watch the sunset, thanks in large part to the mountains on the horizon.

From Daniels Park, runners head north and west toward Highlands Ranch, descending from the starting line elevation of just under 6,600 feet above sea level to just under 5,700 feet by the time they reach the finish line, in Highlands Park near the library and Civic Green Park.

Along the way, they’ll run on Daniels Park Road, Wildcat Reserve Parkway, West Highlands Ranch Parkway, Santa Fe Drive and Town Center Drive before crossing the finish line.

The race features 11 miles of spectacular mountain views of the Colorado Front Range — with views of Longs Peak and Pikes Peak off in the distance — as well as four miles on groomed dirt roads, with pine trees and rocky bluffs just off the course. Shuttle buses will take runners from the finish line area to the starting line.

Proceeds from the race will benefit Children’s Hospital Colorado, and you can find more info on the cause you’ll be running for here.
