runsignup-blueRun just outside Franklin in the nearby small community of Burwood, about 11 miles south of downtown Franklin, the Hills and Hollers Half Marathon & 5K will take runners along a course that includes plenty of “hills” as well as “hollers,” organizers say, through the hilly regions of central Tennessee near Nashville.

The race serves as the main fundraiser for Present Troubles Racing, Inc., a locally based race management company that uses its events to support people affected by amyloidosis, a rare disease that affects the heart, liver, spleen, gastrointestinal tract and nervous system.

Funds raised by the organization’s events are donated to organizations like the Amyloidosis Foundation, Secure Harbor, and the Stem Cell Clinic at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.

Runners will start the race at the Burwood Community Center, near the intersection of Carters Creek Pike and Highway 840, in the middle of Burwood near Huff’s Store.

From there, the course will wind along some “hills” and some “hollers,” organizers note, as well as past plenty of creeks, wide-open pastures and more hills. The race isn’t only hills, they add — the course will also include plenty of flat, fast stretches too.

The course will unfold along Carters Creek Pike, Johnson Hollow Road, Sycamore Road, Bear Creek Road, Robinson Road, Boston Theta Road and Mobley’s Cut Road; after that stretch, runners then head back to Johnson Hollow and Carters Creek Pike for the race finish.
