Saturday, February 18, 2023 • Valdosta, GA • Course Map

runsignup-blueThe mid-February date ought to bring perfect weather for running here in the south Georgia city of Valdosta at the 6th annual running of the Hospice Half Marathon, set for the weekend preceding Valentine’s Day in February.

The brainchild of local running enthusiast Leanna Greene and her family, whose grandfather had received care at the Valdosta-based Langdale Hospice House, the race is designed as a fundraiser to assist in the care of the patients living today at the hospice, to ensure they receive the best possible care and treatment and to improve their quality of life and comfort.

Runners will start the out-and-back course for the race at the Dasher Church of Christ, which lies in the community of Dasher just south of Valdosta off Highway 41.

From there, runners will head out onto the streets of the areas south of Valdosta, which runners should expect to be largely flat and fast, thanks to Valdosta’s location on the mostly flat coastal plain region of southern Georgia.

The scenery and terrain here in this southern town that lies just miles from the Georgia-Florida state line offers a big change from runners accustomed to taking part in big-city races, as Valdosta lies within short drives of Georgia’s Okeefenokee National Wildlife Refuge to the east and Florida’s Osceola National Forest to the southeast.

The course time limit for the half marathon is 3 hours, and participants in the half must be at least 18 years old to enter.
