Note: The race organizer will not be running a 2016 race. The information below refers to the 2015 race.

Set for its 5th annual running, South Williamsport’s Kathryn M. Freeman Race for Ovarian Cancer celebrates the life and memory of Kathryn Freeman, a local resident and longtime volunteer for a range of causes and charitable groups in Williamsport who lost her battle with ovarian cancer in January 2010.

Proceeds from last year’s race were donated to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, and proceeds from the race will go to benefit the Susquehanna Health Foundation’s Spirit of Women program, a free service offered by the foundation to target women’s health and provide women living in the local area with health screenings, medical services and educational programs to encourage them to take control of their own health.

The 2014 race saw just over 130 runners and walkers come out to participate and cross the finish line in the 13.1-mile race, which followed a loop course that started and finished near the intersection of Highway 45 and Seitzer Road.

The course took runners into downtown Williamsport, perhaps best known as the birthplace of Little League baseball and the home of the annual Little League World Series, before heading back into the countryside north of town for the later miles of the race.

For this year’s race, the course will follow a course that starts and finishes at South Williamsport Park on the other side of the Susquehanna River. From there, runners will head along a few city streets and then spend most of the race along the Susquehanna Riverwalk biking and running paths, which unfold along both sides of the river, and feature almost all flat and paved terrain throughout.

The scheduled starting time for the race is 11:00 AM, and age group awards will be presented to the top male and female finishers in each of the following age divisions: age 30 and under, 31 to 40, 41 to 50, 51 to 60, and age 61 and over. Runners and walkers who sign up for the race are encouraged to set up a fundraising page for the race.
