Set for its 13th annual running this year, the Lagoon Valley Trail Run showcases the area’s lush, beautiful greenery and expansive natural lakes that Vacaville is known for, nestled midway between San Francisco and Sacramento with beautiful rolling hillsides and numerous fruit orchards and farms.
The race, which is presented by Lucky Rabbit Events, was established back in 2008 as a way to generate proceeds that will support high school cross-country programs in the Vacaville area. The trail routes for the half marathon were crafter to provide runners with a beautiful running environment as the trails that make up this rugged terrain offer up a unique challenge.
The well-marked trails on the course provide scenic views for runners as they wind in and out of the beautiful, hilly terrain. Although the course for the half marathon intersects with other trails in the park, runners will receive a course map prior to starting the race and the trails will be marked with signs, colored ribbon and flour as well as race volunteers to help runners stay on track.
Runners can enjoy smooth, single track routes throughout the course as the trails are also used for biking events and the trails have been expertly carved out for easy running and hiking.
The course starts right in the middle of the Lagoon Valley Regional Park and the first two miles of the course are a flat and easy single loop around the park’s beautiful lagoon, along a well carved hiking path. Runners then enter the narrow, single track trails that weave in and out of the forests and meadows of the park.
Around the four mile mark, runners will experience their first big incline; which is followed by a steep decline and onto a flat, curving trail. Then, around the 6-mile mark, there is a consistent three mile incline, up the side of one of the park’s mountains, that provides a unique challenge to runners taking on the course.
Once runners reach the incline’s peak at the nine mile mark, they will enjoy a nice and easy down ward slope until they reach the twelve mile mark and the final leg of the race. As they weave in and out of the twisty, curvy trails near the end of the course runners will be faced with a few more small hills as they head towards the finish line.
