This race, whose counterpart Running With The Devil Marathon & Half Marathon is run in the blazing desert heat of the summer, takes runners from the start at the Boulder Beach Special Events area along the scenic Lakeshore Road and Boulder Beach Highway, which overlook Lake Mead’s crystal-blue waters.
The course is made up entirely of paved surfaces (for all races) along mostly gentle rolling hills, with a few long, gradual uphills and downhills thrown in.
Between miles 5 and 7 come the half-marathon’s steady uphill climb and steepest elevation changes, as the courses rises from a low of about 1,324 feet above sea level at the mile 5 marker to about 1,595 feet just after the 7-mile marker. After the halfway point, runners will experience occasional steep hills for the next four miles before coasting steadily downhill to the finish line.
Due to the race being run on national parklands, the course is open to automobile traffic throughout the duration of the race. Runners are asked to remain always on the lakeshore side of the road throughout the duration of their respective races.
