The Bothe-Napa Valley State Park Trail 10K, Half Marathon, and Marathon combines single-track trails with rolling hills, streams, and rocky terrain.
The 300-participant event covers narrow trails and steep drop-offs over a varying amount of loops throughout the park, including an extension to the Old Bale Grist Mill..
Each participant will receive a t-shirt as a keepsake, and the first-place overall male and female runners can claim the honor of receiving the rubber chicken.
In each age group, the top three male and female finishers will receive personalized award ribbons. All full and half marathoners finishers will receive a finisher’s medal.

The park is hidden from the usual influx of tourists, but close enough to renowned restaurants and wineries.
Experience the enchanting melodies of babbling streams as they accompany you on a thrilling journey through the lush single-track trails of Bothe-Napa Valley State Park. This is a race that invites you to challenge yourself amidst the backdrop of rolling hills, meandering streams, and rocky terrain, adding an extra layer of excitement and satisfaction to your run.
Bothe-Napa Valley State Park is a well-kept local secret, hidden from the usual influx of tourists. Situated just a stone’s throw away from the area’s renowned restaurants and wineries, this park offers a delightful escape into nature’s embrace. It’s a rare gem that provides the perfect setting for a memorable running experience.
What makes this event even more exceptional is its limited capacity. With a participant limit of just 300 runners, it’s no wonder that this race sells out every year. Don’t let time slip away; secure your spot and relish the opportunity to run in this picturesque park.
Race day logistics are well-organized to ensure a smooth experience. If you’ve received your bib in advance, you won’t need to check in. But if you need to pick up your bib or make a distance change, the check-in window will be open from 8:15 AM to 9:15 AM. Safety pins and course maps will also be available for your convenience.
Throughout the course, you’ll find bright orange ribbons guiding your way, indicating turns and trail crossings. The 10K course is a single loop, while half marathoners will complete the 10K loop twice. Marathon participants begin with the 10K loop, then proceed south for an out-and-back extension to the Old Bale Grist Mill. Marathon runners repeat this cycle twice before concluding with a final 10K loop.
Aid stations are thoughtfully placed to keep you refreshed and energized. While there’s one at the start/finish area, half marathoners will encounter it once in between their two loops. Marathoners will find aid stations at miles 6, 10, 16, and 20. Carrying your water is highly recommended, especially in the later stages of the race.
Every participant will receive a T-shirt as a keepsake of the event. And if you’re among the swiftest, you could claim the honor of the rubber chicken, awarded to the first-place overall male and female in each distance. Personalized award ribbons will be sent to the top three finishers, male and female, in each age group, providing a lasting reminder of your achievement. For full and half marathoners, a coveted finisher’s medal will also be part of your well-deserved reward.
Bib numbers will be mailed in advance, but if you haven’t received yours by race day, you can pick it up at the event. Remember, $10 parking per vehicle is required at Bothe-Napa State Park, but free parking is available along Hwy 29 if the park spaces are full.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable run for all participants, a strict headphones policy is in place. Given the narrow trails and steep drop-offs, it’s crucial for runners to hear each other and pass safely. Therefore, the use of headphones and any audio devices is not allowed during the race.
The Bothe-Napa Valley State Park race is more than just a run; it’s an immersive adventure into nature’s beauty, a test of your endurance, and an opportunity to connect with fellow runners. With its limited capacity, pristine setting, and well-planned logistics, this race promises an unforgettable experience.
