Overview

Set for its 25th annual running along the streets and park roads of this city just outside Raleigh, the NCRC Classic Half Marathon & 10K typically draws 1,000 runners or more each year for a race that benefits local charities and organizations like the American Red Cross and the Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities.

In the past, the race has served as the half marathon championship race for the Road Runners Clubs of America’s southern regional championships, and has also served as the RRCA’s National Championship 10K race.

Course Description

Runners start the out-and-back courses for both races near the offices of Bandwidth.com on the Weston Parkway, near Lake Crabtree and Lake Crabtree County Park.
Once runners leave the starting line, they’ll be running through the tree-lined park roads of the nearby William B. Umstead State Park for most of the race, as the tree-lined roads take the field over some moderately challenging hills through the park.
The course makes what could be roughly described as an upside-down V-shaped route through the park for the race’s first six miles, which end in the turnaround point once runners reach the intersection of Reedy Creek Lake Trail and Trenton Road.
