You don’t have to be wealthy to soak in the splendor of Newport’s craggy cliffs, ocean breezes, and opulent mansions during the Newport Rhode Races Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K & Beach Mile.

Newport’s historic mansions were built during America’s Gilded Age—between the 1850s and early 1900s—as summer homes (understatedly described as “cottages”) for such monied tycoons as the Vanderbilts, the Astors, and the Morgans.

The Preservation Society of Newport County now owns and maintains many of these splendid homes, but Newport itself remains a popular summertime destination for the well-heeled.

To add to the beauty, the race precedes the Annual Newport Daffodil Days Festival, which pays tribute to the 1,200,000 springtime daffodils beginning to bloom.

This race is a stunning opportunity for racers to traverse this playground of America’s rich and famous.

The half marathon follows the first 13.1 miles of the full marathon course. Runners depart from Easton Beach, heading west toward Brenton Cove, where they’ll be treated to a short and scenic loop within Fort Adams state park. From there, runners will circle southwest to follow the sealine around the peninsula, passing through Brenton Point State Park, catching sights of the yachts along Ocean Drive Historic District, and drinking in the riches of Bellevue Avenue’s Millionaire Row estates. The course loops back along Easton Bay to conclude at the start/finish line at Easton Beach. Ample aid stations are available along the course, with water, Clif gels, Nuun drinks, and bananas available at each one. Port-a-potties are also accessible at each aid station.
