Set for its 17th annual running this year, Florida’s Orlando Xtreme Half Marathon will take runners through the lush trails of the Lake Apopka Restoration Area.

The race is set to take runners on course that starts inside the park’s interior and run on berm roads and single-track trails through wide-open fields, which is filled with a combination of flatwood forests and open prairies, and where runners might expect to catch a glimpse of wildlife like bald eagles, gopher tortoises, bobcats, and river otters, among many others.

One of Florida’s newer and smaller running events, the race attracts just a few hundred runners in all events combined each year. Runners leave the starting line for the official start of the half marathon at 7:00 AM, and an awards ceremony will follow each race.
