Overview

Celebrate trail beauty in southern Utah at Over the Rainbow Runs, hosted on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in Kanab, UT. This boutique trail event features a Half Marathon and 10K, both launching simultaneously at 9:00 AM MDT from Jacob Hamblin Park, nestled beneath the colorful sandstone bluffs that define the region.

🌄 What to Expect

The courses trace dramatic trails over and along the iconic Kanab bluffs—crested trails that form a rainbow arc across the terrain. The route is roughly 75% single-track, 20% ATV roads, and 5% local road, with dirt, soft sand, and a couple of small rock scrambles. The 10K includes 1,012 ft of vertical gain, while the Half Marathon offers about 2,074 ft, challenging but rewarding terrain. Runners are treated to sweeping views, whisper-quiet trail sections, and ample solitude in an uninhabited canyon setting.

Aid is generous—snacks, water, and electrolytes are provided at key aid stations with a six-hour cutoff for both distances.

💖 Why It’s Unique

Entirely volunteer-run with values centered around community, inclusion, stewardship, and sustainability, this race provides a “Saturday morning with friends” vibe—low key, high enthusiasm, and inclusive to all. Proceeds benefit the Friends of Kane County Children’s Justice Center, serving vulnerable youth in the region. Donations beyond entry are encouraged at checkout.

Course Description

Both runs start and finish adjacent to Jacob Hamblin Park in the heart of Kanab, Utah.

If you were to stand in Kanab, pointing to where the race goes, your finger would make an arc like a rainbow…up one side of the bluff, rolling across the top, then down the other side. Do it another time in reverse and you’ve got a “Double Rainbow!” Hence, Over the Rainbow Runs.

The course has it all: it is 75% single-track, 20% ATV roads, and 5% city streets, and is mostly dirt with some soft sand, and 2 small rock scrambles. Parts are very technical in nature and are likely to be power-hiked. The 10K features 1,012 feet of vert; the Half Marathon sports 2,074′.

Cutoff for both races is 6 hours.
