149-racereach_registerFormerly known as the Baldwin Park Half Marathon, the newly renamed Race 13.1 Orlando Half Marathon joins the fast-growing series of races across the Southeast and around the nation, which offers runners “big race perks with a local race feel,” organizers say.

The half marathon route — the race also features a 10K and 5K — takes runners among the streets and neighborhoods of Orlando’s Baldwin Park, a planned residential community that served in decades past as a military base for both the Army Air Corps and the Air Force, around two lakes and through the campus of the city’s Orlando Naval Training Center.

The race starts and finishes just off Interstate 4 near Audubon Elementary School, just south of Lake Corrine and just to the east of Lake Susannah.

From there, runners follow the winding race route northward around Lake Corrine and then southward down to Susannah, before heading out onto the Cady Way Trail, a popular urban trail for bikers, walkers and joggers than runs all the way from Orlando’s Fashion Square Mall up to Cady Way Park.

After runners reach the intersection between the trail and Forsyth Road, they turn around and head back down along the trail to Beach Boulevard, where they pass the southern end of Lake Susannah on their way back to the school for the finish.

Runners can expect to have a text message from Race 13.1 with a link to the live results waiting for them when they cross the finish line.

More than 1,500 runners are expected in the half marathon, so runners thinking of signing up are encouraged to do so as early as possible.
