Part of a series of North Carolina-based races that are set to expand across the Southeast in 2015, the all-new Race 13.1 Tennessee Valley Half Marathon makes its inaugural running this May in this small city — population just over 42,000 — that lies just a short drive from nearby Chattanooga and the Tennessee-Georgia-North Carolina state line.
While the details for the race were still being worked out at the time of this writing, the Race 13.1 Tennessee Valley Half Marathon is set to follow an out-and-back route that starts and finishes at Bradley Square Mall, a shopping mall that lies just to the north of downtown Cleveland.
The race will be USATF (USA Track & Field) certified, organizers say, and the course time limit will be 3 1/2 hours. The race will be open to the first 3,000 entrants — 1,500 in the half marathon, and 750 each in the 10K and 5K.
Race Weather & Climate
Located in Tennessee’s southeastern corner, about 30 miles northeast of Chattanooga, Cleveland typically sees May temperatures between 53ºF and 78ºF, while rainfall totals average just over 4.9 inches for the month, making it the city’s fourth-wettest month of the year.
On the day of the race (May 2), the average low is 49ºF and the average high is 75ºF.
