Billed by race organizers as the only half marathon and fun run in Florida’s Polk County, the all-new InnerAct Alliance Red Ribbon Half Marathon & Fun Run makes its 6th annual running along a course with plenty of rolling hills, which starts and finishes near downtown Lakeland, along the shoreline of Lake Mirror.

Runners start and finish the out-and-back route near the intersection of East Main Street and South Lake Avenue, just north of downtown Lakeland and the Lake Morton historic district. From there, runners head south through this city of roughly 100,000, which is home to the headquarters of the Publix Supermarket chain and was featured briefly in scenes of 1990’s Johnny Depp-led Edward Scissorhands.

As they make their way south, runners head through the Lake Morton, Lake Hollingsworth, Raintree and Cleveland Heights neighborhoods, and they’ll definitely see why this part of the state is called “Lake land.”

They’ll pass by no fewer than eight lakes on the 13.1-mile course, as well as a number of local parks and the golf course of the Cleveland Heights Country Club before heading back north around Lake Hollingsworth to Lake Mirror for the race finish.

There are some rolling hills along the course, organizers note, and the race will also offer a fun run for children (ages kindergarten through the 5th grade) that starts and finishes at the Lake Mirror Promenade.

Race Weather & Climate

Located along Interstate 4 between Tampa and Orlando in central Florida, about 35 miles east of Tampa Bay, Lakeland typically sees November temperatures that average between 59°F and 80°F, while rainfall totals average just over 2.1 inches, making November its second-driest month of the year.

On race day (Nov. 10), the average low is 60ºF and the average high is 81ºF.
