Saturday, January 14, 2017 • Travelers Rest, SC • Course Map
Set for its 14th annual running in mid-January here in this community just north of Greenville, S.C., the aptly named George I. Theisen Family YMCA Resolution Run features a half marathon and 5K, which follows an out-and-back course that starts and finishes next to Trailblazer Park.
From there, runners head south and west along W Road, McElhaney Road, Watson Road and Old Buncombe Road in the direction of Trailblazer Park and Trinity Presbyterian Church on Wilhelm Winter Street.
After the turn onto Old Buncombe Road, the race brings runners onto Frontage Road and then onto the Greenville Swamp Rabbit Trail, a running, walking, biking and hiking trail that criss-crosses through Travelers Rest and nearby Greenville, and runs alongside the Reedy River on a long-ago abandoned railroad bed.
The course features rolling hills throughout its 13.1 miles, which reach their turnaround point on Green Valley Road, and from there runners retrace their steps along nearly the entire route they’ve just run.
Runners make their way back to the park for the race finish, where they’ll cross the finish line along Wilhelm Winter Street. The scheduled starting time for the half marathon and 5K is 9:00 AM.
