Rock ‘n’ the Knob Trail Challenge Marathon Half Marathon & 10K

The 13th Annual Rock ‘N The Knob Trail Challenge, presented by Allegheny Trailrunners Inc., happens on September 14, 2024. This event is known as Pennsylvania’s Highest Race. There is a 10k and a half marathon.
The 10k course includes Lost Porcupine, Code-Red, Tree-odge, Devils Hairpin, Throat Punch Hill, and Soul Sucker Slopes trails. There are two major climbs with nearly 1500 feet of climbing, and there’s one aid station at the base of the first climb at 3.7 miles. The half marathon has over 3500 feet of climbing, featuring sections like Blister Blaster, Teal is Real up Deep Hollow Notch, I’ll Nettle Do This Again, and I Need a Sherpa. There is also a 50k ultramarathon.
Post-race, runners get food and beer. The swag for finishers includes socks, a technical shirt, bottle-opener/medallion, collapsible cups and car decals.

Ascend Blue Knob, the northernmost 3,000-footer in the Allegheny Mountains, in this physically demanding race that features more than 250 feet of climbing per mile. The sadistic race directors have embedded challenges designed to “mess with the heads, hearts, and quads” of even the most seasoned trail runners.
For those seeking a formidable 10K course, Rock ‘N The Knob offers one of the most challenging 10Ks in Pennsylvania, based on the fastest and average finish times. The course includes trails with names like Lost Porcupine, Code-Red, Tree-odge, Devils Hairpin, Throat Punch Hill, and Soul Sucker Slopes. With two major climbs, participants face nearly 1500 feet of climbing, and there’s one aid station at the base of the first climb called Throat Punch Hill at 3.7 miles. Note that pacers, drop bags, or crew are not allowed.
In 2019, the race added a half-marathon course, making this a true doozy for participants. The half-marathon is crafted from the marathon course but retains more than half of the challenges and suffering.
